Basil Potter's Requiem Homily

All of us, I suppose, have a favourite piece of prose, a poem or even a book which we can go back to from time to time, which can cheer us up and warm our hearts. When I find myself musing about what it means to be a priest in today’s world, about the tension that is so evident in our world today as we try and present the message of Christ to people who often seem disinterested or even hostile, I often find myself reaching for an article written by a man called Hugh Lavery.

Annual General Meeting 2007

Saturday 10th November 2007

Advent’s next general meeting will be at St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham, on Saturday 10th November 2007, from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm.

We shall share news and views about our current concerns, and yours would be most welcome! There will be brief reports of Advent business and our representative at the National Conference of Priests will report back on the September meeting.
 

Please bring a lunch to share. Coffee and tea will be provided from 11.00 onwards.

Gerry McCann to run the London Marathon

London Marathon 22nd April 2007

I’m running the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK. Time is getting short – just 5 weeks tomorrow until the big day. If all goes well it will be the fulfilment of a little promise I made to myself 5 years ago before I retired: attempt a marathon every year until I’m 70. So, 4 down and 1 to go!
